What a wonderful job done by Pierce in general for our Nation's elite military. It is imperative that we all keep in mind the fact that these men and women who protect us have their own dreams, desires and someday family that they will need to be educated to pursue and support. Thanks for your comments, Mike. We appreciate the feedback from someone who works so closely with college-bound students. We always love to hear from fellow educators – it’s important to collaborate and share ideas to make sure we’re providing our students with the best resources and guidance!

I agree. I'm a SAT tutor in NYC and I deal with students who are deciding between schools all the time. They are very caught up into names and care little about cost or financial aid. Thanks for sharing, I'm going to forward this article to a few of my students!

Hi –

Making a great first impression is must to beat your competition to the job and it starts with a great resume. As indicated, keep it relevant, updated and error free.

The next step is preparing for the job interview and it is best to do a mock run (preferably with a partner) to become confident.

Interview questions are repetitive and you will find most interviewers using the same set with minor tweaks. Get your hand on a good collection and review the answers in advance – cannot hurt.

Be clear, be confident, be successful.

Hi –

In this shaky economy my recommendation would be to first secure a new job before leaving your current one. Most of us dislike our job and many of us realize it’s true worth after we quit.

I don’t say do something that you don’t like, but in my decade long hiring experience, people generally apply for a new job with a similar profile that pays more… so its not really the job that is the problem.

Be clear, be confident, be successful.

You get only one chance to make a good first impression and what you wear is the most important part.

There is no harm if the interviewer tells you take off the suit jacket as the office attire is casual. There is a problem if your interviewer is dressed in a suit and you walk in wearing jeans.

I think that once you are not enjoying your career you should switch careers because your only going to start doing worse in the job and that could lead to more problems. If you immediately start looking for other opportunities you can still keep the job until you find something you want to do. This will keep your mind not as focused on that job and looking forward to the other job while still making your current job not as bad.

My nephew will be a high school freshman this year and I am going to suggest he reach out to his guidance counselor and also read your blog for additional information on how to get an internship. I think your experiences you have shared with us are so important and will definitely put you ahead of your peers when you enter the workforce and college.

I do not know Teresa personally but I have lived her path. When I was her age, I both attended full time night school for a paralegal certificate (which was all you could get back then) and worked a full time and part time job to support four children. My children are not Teresa's age and going to college also. Your mom is right, setting a good example is the right road in life to follow. With all of your hard work and dedication your children will respect and admire you for it and set the same goals for themselves. Best Wishes for a bright future. (This senior is back at Peirce again too, lol)
